| The association between single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) in the gene of insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR) and age at first calving (AFC), calving interval (CI), lactation length (LL), and milk yield (MY) was studied using 106 graded Holstein females. The polimerase chain reaction (PCR) with specific initiating oligonucleotides, resulted an amplified fragment of 335pb. The population genotypes frequencies were 82.1% and 17.9%, for AA and AB genotypes, respectively. The frequency of A allele was 0.91 and 0.09 of B allele. No association between the identified polymorphism and AFC, CI, and MY was observed. The LL was positively associated (P<0.05) with the absence of B allele. | The aim of the present study was to verify associations between reproductive efficiency and four microsatellite markers located in synteny with genes involved in the regulation of reproductive mechanisms. A sample of 107 females from a Brangus Ibagé population (5/8 Aberdeen Angus x 3/8 Nelore) was characterized for ETH225 (D9S1) and MM12E6 (D9S20) microsatellites, mapped on chromosome 9, and HEL5 (D21S15) and AFZ1 (D21S37) on chromosome 21. | The objective of this work was to obtain prevalence estimates of cloudy vaginal mucus in artificially inseminated Holstein cows raised under intense heat, in order to assess the effect of meteorological conditions on its occurrence during estrus and to determine its effect on conception rate. | O experimento foi conduzido na Fazenda Experimental do Centro de Pesquisa Agroflorestal do Acre - CPAF-Acre, localizada no município de Rio Branco. Foram utilizados inicialmente 20 matrizes e dois reprodutores mestiços da raça An-glo-nubiana, criados em regime semi-intensivo de exploração, tendo como base alimentar pastagens de colonião (Panicum maximum) e brizantão (Brachiaria brizan-tha). | Visando avaliar a adaptabilidade e determinar as médias de produção dos ovinos da raça Santa Inês, nas condições climáticas do Acre, foram adquiridos do Nordeste do Brasil 40 matrizes e dois reprodutores desta raça, os quais foram criados semi-extensivamente, tendo como base alimentar pastagem cultivada de Brachiaria humidicola (quicuio-da-amazônia). o sistema de acasalamento foi a monta natural a campo, onde o macho permaneceu com as fêmeas o ano todo. Após quatro anos de estudos, obteve-se os seguintes índices produtivos: taxa de fertilidade ao parto, 83,1%; prolificidade, 1,24 cordeiros nascidos/parto/ano; taxa de natalidade, 123%. | ABSTRACT This study aimed to estimate heritability, genetic, and residual correlations between reproductive traits such as age at first calving, calving interval, dry period, and first service period and linear type traits measured in Holstein cows born between the years 1990 and 2008 in Brazil. | ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate genetic aspects related to production and reproductive efficiency of Murrah and Mediterranean buffaloes and their crosses. A ranking of bulls from Embrapa Eastern Amazonia was also composed to guide assisted mating. Birth records of 2,322 Murrah, Mediterranean, and crossbred buffaloes from the Embrapa Eastern Amazon herd, from 1953 to 2013, as well as information on production and reproductive traits were used.
